WHAT TO EXPECT:
Head of buffalo, antelope, Maasai life style, birds, baboons, just few to mention. From Empakai we will change means of transport and go back to our ancestor’s age where we will use donkey.

Day 1:- Ngorongoro Crater to Bullati Maasai Village via Olmoti Crater
After breakfast you will have a comprehensive briefing about your tour, you depart from Arusha town with packed lunch and drive via the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater to Olmoti Crater. Upon arrival at Olmoti Crater you get out and hike to the rim of the crater to see the view and have your lunch. Afterwards you hike back to the car and drive to Bullati Maasai village where you will have you will spend the night. We will have a camp fire at night and you will get a chance to meet the Maasai people and exchange cultural also you can participate on Maasai traditional dancing. This will be a good moment for you because you will learn the meaning of names and know where they came from and how this people arrived at this area.

Day 2:- Bullati Maasai Village to Empakai Crater
Today we meet up with our porters and donkeys and walk, no more driving. Today you will walk for about 4 hours through the beautiful scenery. There are some up and downs but generally it is a pleasant walk. Upon arrival at Empakai Crater you walk to the crater floor and there you will hopefully see many animals such as Buffaloes, Thompson's Gazelle and many Flamingos. You will have your picnic lunch in the crater. In the afternoon you hike back up to the rim of the crater where you will have dinner and camp for the night.

Day 3 Bulati – Empakai
After breakfast, the journey goes up a hill from where you have a last panoramic view of the grass plains below. The trek continues up and down through the bushy landscape which finally opens up to the active volcano, Oldonyo Lengai. The trek gives you great views of the majestic volcano as well as into the impressive Empakai Crater before reaching the campsite for the night. You can explore the crater and on a well-maintained path you descend to Lake Empakai inside the crater. This alkaline soda lake is an important food source for flamingos, which can be seen throughout the year. Returning to camp supper will be waiting for you. During the night you might hear the flamingos call as they fly back to their breeding nests at Lake Manyara and Lake Natron.

Day 4 Empakai Crater – Naiyobi onwards to Mto wa mbu
Today you will hike to the Masai village Naiyobi and following a good path, the village as well as Oldonyo Lengai, an active volcano, can be seen from a distance. After lunch in Naiyobi, the trek leaves the Ngorongoro Conservation Area board your jeep and drive to Mto wa Mbuu for overnight. You will stay at the camp which has swimming pool.

Day 5: Lake Manyara game drive.
You will wake up early morning for morning game drive into Lake Manyara National park. You will room around the park for 2hrs then you drive back to the camp for siesta. There after drive back to Arusha.

Day 1 Arusha – Olmoti Crater – Nainokanoka
In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and you will travel on a good tar road to the village of Mto wa Mbu with the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley towering up ahead. From a viewpoint above the town you will see the Masai plains stretch to the horizon with the alkaline Lake Manyara down below. A short drive further and you will reach the gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey continues along the scenic crater road, to the Masai village of Nainokanoka. While the camp is being set up, you will hike to the rim of the Olmoti Crater during the afternoon. There is also a possibility to visit a small waterfall along the way. Dinner will be served at the camp. Depending on the time of year, it might be cold (the camp is at an altitude of 2,650 m).

Day 2 Nainokanoka – Bulati
In the early morning a Masai guide will arrive with his donkeys. After breakfast and loading the donkeys, the journey begins and you will pass many traditional Masai bomas and cattle herds. Soon, you might also see wild animals such as Thompson and Grant’s gazelles, zebras and wildebeests with hungry jackals not far behind and majestic eagles observing the situation. After approximately 16 km you will reach a campsite not far from the Masai village Bulati.

Day 3 Bulati – Empakai
After breakfast, the journey goes up a hill from where you have a last panoramic view of the grass plains below. Today you will hike to the Masai village Naiyobi and following a good path, the village as well as Oldonyo Lengai, an active volcano, can be seen from a distance. After lunch in Naiyobi, the trek leaves the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the landscape becomes drier and warmer. Tonight’s camp will be set up at amongst an acacia forest.

Day 5 Acacia Camp – EngareSero – Arusha
The last stage of the journey is not too long and it goes mainly downhill. The highlights of the trek are the great views of Oldonyo Lengai, Lake Natron and the Rift Valley. The rugged countryside looks almost surreal covered by grey ash of the last eruption in 2007. The trek descends down into the dry and hot Rift Valley, where the ash can be seen up close. Around lunchtime you will reach the waiting vehicle and your driver will take you back to Arusha.

Ilkiding'a Cultural Tour

Ilkiding’a is one of six villages of Ilkiding’a ward in Arusha district council of Arumeru district in Arusha region. Ilkiding’a is a Maasai word which means congested. (It can be a group of people houses, cars or trees).

It was initiated two hundred years ago by our elders, because of moving from one place to another and living communal life. Ilkiding’a area was a forest and full of wild animals so the Maasai leader those days called masarie advised his people to live together for the aim of protecting themselves from wild animals.

This act of living together resulted to other Maasai people calling this group “Iltung’ana looiding’a” which means over crowded/congested. Finally it was common for the area to be called Ilkiding’a. Half day tour (2-3hr)
In this tour you start at Eliakimu house which has been selected to be a reception for tourist who visiting this village, and you can walk to Sembeo’s household where several traditionally built, round house give you an idea of how an extended family lives together. The view of the Ngarenaro valley and Leleto hill is beautiful and the presence of Mount Meru makes it unique. Sembeo will show you how they make knives and will explain how he runs his business.

ACTIVITIVITIES:
The village is reach with different activities which you can spend up to six days without turn to the first point(like waterfalls, hike the hills around mt. meru, mountain bike. Spend nights with local people into their house). But due to the time limit below are the activities proposed for you.
 Pickup from your hotel by our driver, and drive to Ilkiding’a. This will take 20-30minutes.  Visit Eliakimu house where you will be briefed about your tour.
 Visit to Orpul, where you will witness how maasi SLAUGHTER GOAT and you will participate on roasting the meat and we will eat together. During this time Eliakimu will explain the meaning of Orpul.
 Also you will get to know how Maasai cure deceases: Traditional Healer (Medicine men)
 Finally we will eat tradition food which prepared by Maasai woman, along with Maasai dance.
 You might witness Circumcision ceremony for boys.
You can’t dare to put your eyes aside from the panoramic from the clef of mount meru, gorges what an amazing adventures.

Mainyoito Women Group
This group was established in 2003 by the Maasai women of Ilkiding’a word in the foothill of mount Meru. This group has been making beadwork and the income generated from this work goes to provide much needed daily essentials like food, medication, school fees and supplies.

Tourists have been buying products from the women group as well as learning on how to make them as it is a very interesting activity.

From here you have a view on Arusha town, the Maasai steppe and its volcanoes. At Eliakimu’s house the Mainyoito women’s group is waiting for you with a traditional meal.
Visit to Orpul, where you will witness how maasi SLAUGHTER GOAT and you will participate on roasting meat and we will eat together. During this time Eliakimu will explain the meaning of Orpul.
You will digest your food with Maasai dance
